Chapter Ten
The Exodus
Hunger and starvation still ruled the community which was observant by Deze and her mother. Everyone soon learnt the name of some obscure illnesses such as kwashiorkor, a protein deficiency and malnutrition deficiency. Some air-raids strike again and the elderly men in the village suggest they leave the community for another. The community then decides to leave. A child dies during their journey and was buried immediately. The late child’s parents named Orjay and Ijeoma mourned him grieviously. Ijeoma was lost in thoughts because it would be difficult to get another child owing to the fact that she had had miscarriages and also that the dead child was her only child. Meanwhile, the journey continues after the mourning.
