Chapter Nine
The Gravel Women
Gonma had to begin to play the role of a mother. She was in charge of all domestic affairs in the house. Justin, her father felt sorry for unjustly disliking herself began to make visible efforts to bring her closer. He had always seen females as being weak and wished she was a male. While his wife was alive, he despised her and the little girl had to make her mother her young companion. Mr. Justin was a young contractor and slept with women who worked at his construction site. The women craved for him, offering themselves in search of daily bread. These poverty-stricken women cheapened themselves so much before Justin that he thought that, other than for breeding, the female’s species were worthless. As all these thoughts came to his mind, he feared and reassured himself that Gonna would not become like one of the gravel women that worked for him.
