The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) recently ordered all the telecommunications operate to stop issuing new SIM cards to customers. Now, the NCC has also directed all mobile phone users to link their National Identity Number to their phone number.

The move is designed to regulate the telecom industry in a bid to stop misusing of SIM card by fraudsters and kidnappers. According to the NCC, all SIM holders have about two weeks to complete the linking process, or get their SIM blocked by their telecom operator.

Today, we will share with you, how to can link your National Identity Number (NIN) to your Glo, MTN, Airtel and 9mobile line. Before we begin, please remember that the linking process should be done, on or before 31st of December 2020 to prevent your line from being blocked.

How To Get Your National Identity Number (NIN)?

The NIN is a 11-digit number and you can get or retrieve this number by simply dialing *346# from your phone. It is a simple USSD code that is available on MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile.

  • To link your MTN line, simply dial *785#, then enter your NIN and submit.
  • You can also do this by visiting https://mtnonline.com/nim/ from your phone or computer, then enter your name, phone number, NIN, and email address. Finally, submit the form and then wait for feedback from the network.

Glo users can link theirs by simply texting “UPDATENIN“, then your NIN followed by your First Name then your Last Name to 109

You can also link by visiting the nearest Globacom office to register/link their NIN. It can also be done online by visiting this link HERE to fill the form.

To link your NIN to your Airtel phone number,

  • Dial *121*1# on the Airtel line you wish to link.
  • Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send.
  • Enter your 11-digit NIN and send.
  • Wait for a confirmation message. If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again.

You can also visit https://www.airtel.com.ng/nin to link it online.

For 9mobile users, you can visit the nearest 9mobile office or service centre to register or link yours.

Currently, there are 173 centres and 30 state government institutions approved by the federal goverment to conduct enrolment for NIN across the federation.
